Awkwafina
Awkwafina, an American actor and singer, began with funny raps, which dealt with sexual identities, racial identity and gender. In the years before she stepped into Hollywood her music, she came out with several rap tracks. Nora Lum, born in Forest Hills Queens to Chinese and Korean immigrants, was her very first musical encounter. She played the trumpet. Also, she received the classical and jazz education later when she began to explore hip-hop as a teenager. In college she studied Women's Studies and Journalism. It was also during this time that she spent an hour studying Mandarin while in Beijing. When she graduated, she started to focus on music. The track she released in 2012 My Vag a response to Mickey Avalon's My Dick found viral success on the Internet and was later released on her debut LP Yellow Ranger in 2014. The album also had hit songs with viral appeal, like the body positive Queef or her wink-inducing hometown tour NYC Bitche$. The latter song was linked directly into another venture Awkwafina's NYC guide to traveling published in 2015. After she established herself as a singer and author, she chose to assume acting roles. The actress has been in films including Neighbors 2 Storks as well as Bad Rap. In 2018, she landed several notable roles that were a breakthrough, like Dude Ocean's 8, or Crazy Rich Asians. That June she issued the EP In Fina We Trust.
